This is heart-rending and very moving, and it's so easy to see that within the dynamic of the trio, Hermione could easily be the one cut out. Harry and Ron aren't quite bright enough to understand just how catastrophic that would be, and this is a very, very nice rendition of that possibility. I particularly like your use of some of the distaff JKR characters to form a cohesive unit.
